Pesqueira, localiza-se no estado de Pernambuco, a uma latitude 08º21'28" Sul e a uma longitude 36º41'47" Oeste, com altitude de 654 metros. População de 57 772 hab. (2004), numa área de 1036,45 km2. O município foi criado em 1762, com o nome de Cimbres. Em 1836, a sede do município foi transferida da vila de Cimbres para a povoação de Poço de Pesqueira, Em 1880 foi elevada a cidade com o nome de Santa Águeda de Pesqueira. Em 1913 passou a denominar-se Pesqueira.em vez de Cimbres.
